How to get to Paralia Ofrinio?
The village is located on Orfano Bay (Strum Bay) and is among the closest seaside resorts to the Kulata border crossing. After crossing the border post, you have to drive through Serres and Nea Zychni. Take the junction at Amphipoli, where you cross the Via Ignatia and after 3-4 km to the east you will reach Paralia Ofriniou.
The trip to the seaside resort takes about 3-4 hours, depending on the busyness of the border crossing. It is good to leave at night or very early in the morning to avoid possible heavy traffic and traffic jams.
What does the resort offer?
The place is not suitable for people who prefer sightseeing, as there are hardly any in the village. Not far from the beach is the Church of the Transfiguration.
On the opposite side of Orfano Bay is located Mount Athos (Holy Mountain) – the only “autonomous monastic state” in the world. It occupies the Athos arm of the Halkidiki peninsula and is one of the most significant places for Orthodoxy and monasticism, with a rich cultural and historical heritage.
Alistrati cave is located 30 km from Paralia Ofriniou – one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Greece, known for its bizarre rock formations. The cave was formed in the karst rocks of the Petroto area (“petra” from Greek – “stone”) more than 2 million years ago during the Pleistocene. It is part of the underground system of the Dramatitsa River, together with 4 other caves nearby.
In Paralia Ofriniou there are several bakeries that offer traditional Greek and Bulgarian breakfasts, various beach bars and dozens of taverns where you can try dishes typical of our southern neighbor, mostly fresh seafood.
In addition to being huge, Ofriniou Beach is famous for its large children’s center – a cafe with an inflatable water slide, hammocks, trampolines and special chairs for children.
The town has nice places for dining and entertainment. The terraces of the waterfront taverns overlook the bay. There are also nightclubs with live music and cocktail bars.
